Can i go swimming on my period?

ok,so my aunt is a doctor and my sister frend didnt have a tapon and wanted to swim...so my aunt so go ahead so she went swimming on her period and nothing bad happend?..........And my cousin always go swimming on hers and no blood runs or nothing....so can i go swimming on mine???????/:)
